Coastside Hope needs volunteers for our once- monthly Family Harvest food distribution. This is an excellent opportunity for all volunteers, including students volunteering after school.
Family Harvest is on the third Thursday of every month at our warehouse – 214 Harvard Ave in Princeton Harbor.
The program runs from 2:00-5:30 and is a two-phase event.
From 2:00-3:30 we break down pallet loads of fresh produce, frozen proteins, and shelf-stable food into family servings (usually 5 bags that weigh 25 pounds each).
Then from 3:30 – 5:30 we load that food into clients’ cars.
Usually there is more than one family per car, as not all clients can afford cars. Some clients borrow cars from friends or employers to pick up their food.
Most of our volunteers attend for the first shift only, the breakdown part. This is the shift where we need the most people. We can keep up to 20 volunteers busy for this shift.
The second shift requires fewer persons. We can keep 6-8 volunteers busy during this shift, depending on client flow.
Small corporate groups of up to 5 persons are welcome – more than that risks having too many people. Remember that wasting a volunteer’s time is the cardinal sin!
This is an ad-hoc volunteering event. You are welcome to turn up without registration. If you’d like more information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 650-726-9071 x222.
